Guest Blogger: Bengal Reads

This month we have the pleasure of hosting one of the sweetest bloggers we know, Kayla of Bengal reads. Kayla is here to talk about two wild YA books she's read recently. The good and bad kind.

So, I have been thinking about this topic for a while and I have to say I have had some pretty WILD Young Adult Books lately. I'm going to tell you about one I absolutely loved and one that I didn't like at all!

I think I'll go ahead and give you guys the "bad" news first. Here recently I read a book called The Demon Catchers of Milan and the premise sounded super good and WILD. I mean the title had "DEMON CATCHERS" in it so I knew it would be crazy and I was really looking forward to it. When I actually started reading the book I was thinking okay so maybe this book is just going to be a little boring in the beginning and then it will pick up. NO. It didn't pick up at all, it continued to be boring and super confusing.

Let me express the reasons why I didn't like this book:
1. She had "sort" of a crush on her cousin Emilio and I thought that was weird.
2. When she finally got to participate in Demon Catching... they had her ringing Bells? WTF, bells. CRAZY right?
3. When she finally found a potential love interest he ended up in the hospital and didn't show up for the rest of the book.
4. Lastly, it just stayed boring... there was no "climactic" scene, and it drove be crazy.

Maybe I had my expectations too high when going into this book, or maybe this book just wasn't my cup of tea. Either way I just did not enjoy this book at all.

Now for the good…

I am so glad I waited until today to write this up because now I can tell you about the wonderfully amazing book that I read yesterday. I literally finished it in a couple of hours... that is how good this book was.

The book I am talking about is Sweetest Taboo by Eva Marquez. When I first received this Book Review Request I thought I would put it off for a couple of weeks and yesterday something just made me want to pick it up. OMFG, I was in for a big treat. From page 1 to the very last page my eyes were glued to this book. I usually stop to take snack or restroom breaks while reading, but for this book I couldn't bring myself to put it down long enough to do either.

Sweetest Taboo is about a High School girl named Isabel who engages in a relationship and falls in love with her swim coach, Tom, who is also a teacher at her school. YEAH, crazy right? Very controversial subject and definitely WILD. I went into reading this book with an open mind and it exceeded my expectations. Most stories you hear about a younger student and an older Teacher having a relationship... the Student is always the victim and the Teacher is the bad guy. Eva explores a different kind of outcome in Sweetest Taboo. Tom is married with two kids and yes it sounds bad at first but as the story progresses you get to see the reasons why he married in the first place and you start to see who he really is and feel bad for him. I have much respect for this guy because he NEVER pressures Isabel to do anything... yes this is a fictional book but this story of forbidden love has truly touched my heart. Eva tackles this subject with such grace that you can't help but enjoy this story even if you don't agree.

So, have you guys ever read any wild Young Adult books (good or bad)? I would love to hear your stories!

Thank you so much Cimmaron and Braine for having me here at Talk Supe. I absolutely love you guys' blog and think it's amazing.

Who's behind Bengal Reads?

Hey guys, so my name is Kayla Graham. I am an 18 year old getting ready to be in college. I run the Young Adult Blog "Bengal Reads". When I first started blogging I named my blog Simply Kayla's Book Reviews and it was STRICTLY an Adult Romance blog. About three months into blogging I discovered the Young Adult genre and Simply Kayla's Book Reviews started to evolve into a Young Adult Book Blog. Not long after I re-named my blog Bengal Reads and had my blog re-designed. I am very happy with how much Bengal Reads has grown over these past 7 months. Okay I'm going to stop Ingram, I hope you guys enjoyed the story of how my blog came to be!
Once again, we'd like to express our thanks to Kayla for guesting on our blog today. Like we said, she's one of the sweetest bloggers we know and she does a fantastic job juggling her YA and Adult book blogs. We'll have Kayla on later this year to talk about some of her more naughty and steamy reads. Keep up the fantastic job and good luck on your freshman year of college!!

Make sure you to visit Kayla on her YA book blog

    2. Thanks Kayla for dropping by. I did see your review for The Demon Catchers and Milan and was I so happy that I didn't get that book. Not only is crushing on your cousin a little off but one of the characters' name is Lucifero?! Pretty obvious and not really creative especially since you're writing about Demons.

Thanks for sending Eva Marquez our way, her choice of topic for her book is so controversial it's too good to pass up.

I wish you luck in college and I hope you have a blast! Keep us posted and share pics of cute college boys, Cimmaron and I will relieve our youth through you. LOL
