Here's the blurb for the upcoming novel:
When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity, and unexpected revelations?
After reading the blurb I think the cover fits perfectly well with the theme by depicting a simple marked ballot. Even though Casual Vacancy won't have us lost in the whimsical world of magic I think that she'll lure enough people with her brialliant writing. Obviously, the younger crowds might not be as attracted to read Current Vacancy but the older fans of Rowling can look forward to another Rowling novel even if there are no spells, wards or flying broomsticks involved.
For J.K. Rowling fans, will you be reading The Casual Vacancy, even if it doesn't have the same magic as the Harry Potter series?

Oh my. I... I really can't say I like that cover. I sure hope it doesn't do the book any justice... It's hard to picture Rowling writing something bad, but...
ReplyDelete[yay for suspense points abuse!)
The cover really is understated but since this is adult fiction with no paranormal elements it goes well. I'm a fan of her writing so I'll be giving this a go.
DeleteNot crazy about the cover, but I'm curious enough to check this one out. Sadly, I'm one of the few who haven't read her Harry Potter series. But Lego Harry Potter on the Xbox is pretty awesome LOL ;-)
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I love Lego HP that game really is a lot of fun. Maybe you can read HP to your kids. I'm sure they would love the storiies. I started reading HP when I worked as a nanny and the kids I took care of we're really into HP.
DeleteNot really a fan of the cover either. It feels like they didn't really try I guess. Dunno if I'll actually read this just because this isn't my normal genre. It sounds to literary fiction for me to enjoy

This is definitely a departure from HP but I am a fan of Rowling and her writing so I'll be giving this a try. I do like stories set in the UK and I'm hoping that Rowling will surprise us.
DeleteHi guys,
ReplyDeleteI will the new JK Rowling by curiosity. I've liked her writting skills so much that I will be glad to see her work in a new genre.
It's a huge step and she most have had a lot of pressure. So just for the risk she has taken I will read her work.
By the way, thanks for stopping by my blog! I really like the design and the atmosphere of yours.

Okay so you know what I think when I see JK Rowling now??? I think about how jealous and envious I am that she is a true rags to riches story!! She looks amazing!! We need to find us Ballers so we can look amazing too!! Lol. Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteShe is my idol & I'll read the book, but at $20/download, I'll buy the hardcover, instead. Or get from the library.
ReplyDeleteOh, I ADORE J.K. and I'll read ANYTHING she writes. I'm totally pre-ordering this one. I'm liking the kind of vintage, early/mid-20th century look to the cover, despite the mixed feelings, but I so want to know more about the damned book already!
