Dirty Little Secret is a weekly meme hosted by Under the Covers. Every Thursday they get to know other bloggers and readers more intimately by asking them a question hoping to reveal their dirty little secrets.
BraineThis Week's Question:List two "Don't" and one "Do" when it comes to blogging and reviewing
- DON'T accept review requests for books, movies, any topic that you won't probably like (learned this the hard way).
- DON'T be scared to express your real thoughts and feelings on your posts but
- DO it in a smart and tactful manner. You want to encourage discussion in your blog not hate comments. There's a big difference.
Cimmaron
- DON'T hound, pester or stalk authors or fellow bloggers for ARCs. If you want the book so badly then wait till you can purchase your own copy. It really annoys me when I practically see folks grovel for books.
- DON'T accept books for review if you know you won't have time to read and review it in a timely manner. I'm often guilty of this *hangs head in shame*
- DO interact with your followers and fellow bloggers. Communication is key!
Now that we've shared our Dirty Little Secret with you, what's yours?

Great advice ladies! All points are great ones :-)

I've been guilty of accepting books that I didn't know if I would read or not. It was when I first started blogging and I was just honored that an author sought me out for a review. Then... I learned to only accept books that I know that I will like. If it's not something I would normally read I offer other solutions for the authors like guest posts or interviews so that their books can be featured on the blog. I figure, just because I may not like their book doesn't mean others won't.

All are valid points and boy did I get burned on the one where I tried to accept as many requests as possible--UGH...I have learned to be picky and choose ones that I will most definitely follow through--that is one of the reasons why you don't see a lot of historicals on my page for reviews. I don't typically do them. And I feel like I wouldn't do the review any good at all.

Great points. I no longer accept everything thrown my way because I got stuck reading a few books that just weren't meant for me ;) Now I'm super picky about review requests.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! Show me a blogger that didn't accept everything they were offered when they first started! I still struggle with it because there are so many great books and I don't want to say no!
ReplyDeleteGrovelling for books also irritates me - the world won't actually end if you have to wait for it to be released before you read it. Really, it wont!
haha it seems that we were all a bit guilty of the "accepting too many review books" part. Great thing we learned and are not imparting our wisdom to other!

All Great answers. Especially "DON'T hound, pester or stalk authors or fellow bloggers for ARCs." Have a nice week.
ReplyDeleteGreat Do's & Don'ts! I agree completely. Especially about leaving comments and stuff in a tactful way, I know its crazy how you can automatically sense someones hatred through a simple sentence. and it wont even be in CAPS!

awesome advice ladies! :D I agree with everything here, and Lol @Cimmaron *hangs head in shame*, I'm guilty of the same thing. I just can't seem to stop, but I miraculously I always manage to read a book within the requested time period xD Lol. But you're right, we shouldn't do so if we don't think we'll have the time :)
ReplyDeleteGreat advice ladies! I'm loving the new look of your blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Wickedly Bookish!
